What is and where does the world's most expensive and exclusive coffee come from?

Coffee is one of the most consumed beverages in the world; It is obtained from the roasted and ground grains of the fruits of the coffee plant (coffee tree).

Currently, more than 25 million family farms in some eighty countries grow around 15 billion coffee trees, but there is a brand that is the most expensive in the world for its quality and exclusivity.

This is Kopi Luwak, a very peculiar Indonesian coffee that is obtained by grinding coffee beans extracted from the feces of an animal called "civet", which feeds almost exclusively on coffee berries. The most interesting thing is that these mammals have the ability to choose berries at their best.

The process begins with the civet eating the berry and digesting its pulp, but expelling the whole grain in the feces. This is beneficial because the grains pass through the digestive system and the enzymes in the animal's intestinal tract are able to remove much of their bitterness.

Although many do not like the origin of this coffee, it should be noted that hygiene is ensured throughout the production process and is regulated to do so. Many people consume this coffee around the world and highlight its intense and delicious flavor, with a slight sweet aroma similar to cocoa or caramel.

Its high price has to do with its quality and low production. About 500 kilos are produced annually and the average value of a kilo is usually 900 euros. A cup of this coffee in a bar or restaurant can be found for 80 0 90 euros.
