Mass leak on Facebook: how to know if you were a victim of data theft

The social network Facebook was affected by the leak on the internet of a database with information on 530 million users, of which about 2.3 million accounts belong to Argentine users.

To find out if your data was exposed, you can go to the website  Have I Been Pwned? , in which updated information is collected on the main credential breaches of Internet services.

You only have to enter the email address and the page will inform you if any account associated with this email appeared in a massive data leak.

We tell you what are the measures you should take to protect your privacy and improve security:

-Change your Facebook password

For this, it is advisable to use a password manager so that it generates a sufficiently secure random key. Then you must enter Facebook on your smartphone and choose the menu icon located at the top right to select Settings and privacy and Settings.

In the Security section, we access Security and login. In the Login section, click on Change password. In the following menu we enter the old password once, the new one twice and click on Update password.

-Modify the email address

It is key to prevent them from trying to impersonate your identity. To do this, from the Facebook app, you must click on the menu icon located at the top left. Access the Settings and privacy section. Within it, go to Settings and click on Personal Information. Then go to Contact information and then Add email address.

Then we will receive an email in the new account to verify that it is ours and returning to the previous menu, we select the new email address and click on Make it main.

In addition, experts advise enabling two-step authentication to prevent the account from being compromised by a cybercriminal.
